Serve fruit chew sweets in a small sweets bowl, with biscuits or chocolate in a separate dish. For a dessert display, add a few pieces beside a plain fruit-and-biscuit plate just before serving.
The Mentos idea dates to 1932, when the Van Melle brothers imagined a peppermint-flavoured sweet during a train journey. The familiar roll format arrived in 1960.
