Klene began in a Rotterdam attic in 1876, where Johannes Coenradus Klene made his first confectionery. The range later grew to include the liquorice for which the brand is known.

Sweeteners (maltitol syrup, steviol glycosides), gelatine, food acids (lactic acid, citric acid), natural flavourings and aromas, concentrates (safflower, carrot, radish, lemon, blackcurrant), coconut oil, colouring (anthocyanins), glazing agents (beeswax, carnauba wax).
