Haribo was founded by confectioner Hans Riegel in Bonn in 1920; the name combines HAns, RIegel and BOnn. He started production in a small kitchen with little more than a sack of sugar, a copper kettle and a rolling pin. In 1922 he created the Dancing Bear, the early fruit-gum figure that eventually became the famous Goldbear.
Current highlights from Haribo include Fruit Gum Gnomes, Foam Candy Bananas and Fruit Gum Tangfastics. Together, the range spans gummies, mints and other sweets.
