It happened a long time ago in the village of Werther. There, the confectioner Gustav Nebel made a masterly sweet. He used fresh cream, real butter, white granulated sugar, golden candy, a pinch of salt and a lot of time. Because these candies were so delicious, they were called Werther's Original in homage to the village.
